THE MOMS Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein with COLD-EEZE® hosted a Mamarazzi® Breakfast and Talk Back Event with Actresses Toni Collette and Jacqueline Bisset and COLD-EEZE® CEO Ted Karkus on Tuesday, October 27th, 2015 at Park Avenue Screening Room. The event, which brought together influential moms and media, for a special advance screening of the new film, Miss You Already, a story of two best friends as they navigate life’s highs and lows, until one of them is hit with devastating news that changes everything. Guests enjoyed a selection of light bites prepared by Chef Mark Anthony Bailey and gift bags courtesy of COLD-EEZE®. Additional notable attendees at the event included Celebrity Jewelry Designer Margo Manhattan and the Director of Marketing for EZBZ, Inc. Kristen Nweeia.

Immediately following the screening Collette and Bisset sat down for a Q & A with The MOM’s Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein, who were also joined by the movie’s Producer Christopher Simon. The movie, which stars Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette, is about the story of best friends Jess (Barrymore) and Milly (Collette) who grew up together and shared everything with each other. Then, Milly is diagnosed with breast cancer and the diagnosis turns their world’s upside down. Bisett plays Miranda, Milly’s mom, who lends support to her throughout her battle with cancer.

When asked about how she decided to partake in the film, Collette said “the role chooses you and soul connects to it,” adding, “I loved that it celebrated life, despite the tragic outcome. The ultimate message is to appreciate what you have.”

Bisset when describing the plight Milly, Collette’s character, she said that the reality of her situation was “awful.” “It takes so much guys to be sick like this and stay the same,” she said. For Collette, there was nothing she would not do for this role saying, “I shaved my head. I would’ve done anything for this film.” However, when she told her two children about this role, she said, “They didn’t like it. I really freaked one of them out.”

The film’s producer Christopher Simon shared with the crowd that part of the net proceeds of the movie will go to breast cancer charities in the U.S., U.K. and Australia and is working to establish partnerships with additional charities elsewhere.

ABOUT THE GUESTS:

Toni Collette is an Australian actress and musician, known for her acting work on stage, television, and film as well as a secondary career as the lead singer of the band Toni Collette & the Finish. She is a recipient of the Emmy and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, and has been nominated for both the Academy Award and the Tony Award.

Jacqueline Bisset is an English actress. In 2010, she received one of France’s highest honors, the Légion d’honneur. Bisset began her film career in 1965 and first came to prominence in 1968, starring opposite Frank Sinatra in The Detective and Steve McQueen in Bullitt, and received a most promising newcomer Golden Globe nomination for The Sweet Ride. In the 1970s, she appeared in François Truffaut’s Day for Night which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Murder on the Orient Express, opposite Nick Nolte in The Deep and received a Golden Globe nomination for Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?

Ted Karkus is the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ProPhase Labs. He financed and advised ID Biomedical, a biotech/vaccine company, when it was valued at $25 million and near bankruptcy. He successfully persuaded the board of directors into making difficult but necessary changes to management, including the replacement of the CEO, and helped to redirect their strategic focus. Seven years later, the company was sold to GlaxoSmithKline for more than $1.4 billion. While advising ID Biomedical, he began a similar decade-long engagement with ProPhase Labs. After years of declining revenues, increasing losses and questionable activities, the company’s direction was in dire need of change — and the shareholders’ interests in need of protection. He initiated a highly risky but incredibly successful proxy contest that led to his position as CEO. As CEO, he directly oversee corporate strategy, legal strategy, shareholder relations and marketing/advertising (including PR, SM/digital, TV, radio and print), as well as R&D/product development and sales team. After inheriting a severely declining brand, he has restructured the entire go to market strategy for Cold-EEZE® Cold Remedy, their flagship brand, which has led to dramatic growth since 2010.

Non-Toxic Living Expert Sophia Ruan Gushée Offers Holistic Approach In The New Book “A to Z of D-Toxing: The Ultimate Guide to Reducing Our Toxic Exposures”

Sophia Gushee-outdoor portrait web res

D-TOX-cover-300dpi_FINAL

Sophia Ruan Gushée‘s A to Z of D-Toxing: The Ultimate Guide to Reducing Our Toxic Exposures is exactly that: a comprehensive guide to common household products that may harbor dangerous chemicals and toxins hidden in their ingredients. Her in-depth research makes this book a helpful, easy-to-read manual for any head of household concerned with reducing toxins in everyday life.”

–          Frank Lipman MD, New York Times bestselling author of The New Health Rules

The culmination of years of research, A to Z of D-Toxing: The Ultimate Guide to Reducing Our Toxic Exposure is a practical handbook for navigating the many toxins in the environment, and offers ways to minimize the risk of experiencing their potentially negative side effects.  Author Sophia Ruan Gushée wrote this comprehensive reference manual for individuals and families interested in learning more about the toxins that have been introduced into commercial use over the last several decades, and outlines her method for reducing exposures.

Gushée decided to publish her findings in order to give others access to the studies, facts, and statistics she amassed over many years, much of which is difficult to find and, often, even more difficult to understand without expert guidance.

“Inevitably, this journey has changed me profoundly,” says the author. “Most obvious, it has empowered me. I finally have the lay of the land that I’ve wanted — a road map of my family’s potentially toxic exposures (especially those that are avoidable) — so that I have the information I need to formulate a game plan that suits my family’s unique environment and lifestyle.”

The book, to be published this fall, includes scientific exploration of climate change, the potential dangers of common household cleaners, and ways in which children are particularly vulnerable to toxicants in their environments, along with a step-by-step plan to begin the process of detoxifying one’s lifestyle.

Publication date: October 20, 2015; $29.95; currently available for pre-sale at Amazon. Please let us know if you would like to receive a galley and/or copy of the book.

About Sophia Ruan Gushée

Sophia Ruan Gushée is a mother of three who, upon leaving a career in investment management to spend more time with her children, began a journey to build the healthiest and safest environment possible for her family.  This mission to become a truly conscious consumer led her into five years of research on the many toxins we are exposed to and the possible effects of these substances on our lives. Sophia earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Master in Business Administration from Columbia University.  She is also a certified yoga teacher, living in New York City with her family.
