Geraldo Rivera Reflects on Celebrity Apprentice; Announces Appearance on “Glee”

Fresh off his searing finish on NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” award-winning journalist, author and talk show host Geraldo Rivera has announced he will appear in two forthcoming episodes of the final season of the hit Fox show, “Glee,” alongside legendary stars Jane Lynch and Carol Burnett. Rivera participated in the dramatic final showdown of “The Celebrity Apprentice” which aired Monday, February 16, 2015, when it was revealed he raised an enormous $725,000 for charity Life’s WORC, an organization that supports individuals with developmental disabilities and the autistic.

The seventh installment of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” which scored huge ratings for NBC, came to a dramatic conclusion in the final boardroom confrontation with host and producer Donald Trump awarding author and television personality Leeza Gibbons the top honor and giving her an additional $250,000 for her chosen charity. Rivera, a Peabody and Emmy-Award winning journalist who currently hosts specials under the moniker “Geraldo Rivera Reports” on Fox News Channel (FNC) plus a daily show on WABC RADIO 770, avoided elimination on the show each week in the face of deadlines, intellectual challenges and intense scrutiny. Over the course of the season, Rivera raised by far the largest amount of any of the 16 original contestants to appear on the show, a tribute to his impressive business acumen. Reflecting on his experience on the show, Geraldo said, “of course I would have preferred to win but you can’t win them all! Losing to Leeza certainly eased the pain. She’s such a compassionate, intelligent, talented, lovely person raising funds for another great cause.”

Life’s WORC Assistant Executive Director, Matthew Zebatto says over 150 of the organization’s supporters and clients gathered to watch the final and cheer Rivera on, all proud of how hard he fought on their behalf. “Geraldo’s a trail blazer. His main consideration has always been what was good for the charity – not how he was perceived by people watching.” He says the organization will use the money to provide economically challenged families membership in their new family center for autism.

Looking ahead to new exciting projects, Rivera – who appeared in the final season of The Sopranos and the final episode of Seinfeld, is excited to be appearing in two forthcoming episodes of hit show, “Glee” – which is currently in its final season. Rivera plays himself in a series of hilarious encounters with cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, played by wonderful actress Jane Lynch, and Sue’s mother, played by legendary Carol Burnett. In a rough and tumble confrontation that will leave audiences rolling in the aisles, the shows will leave Glee fans longing for more. Watch Geraldo Rivera on the show on Fox – Friday at 9/8C.

Juniper Bar is Midtown West’s Newest Upscale Bar & Restaurant

Juniper is the latest upscale bar and restaurant to descend upon New York’s Midtown West. Located at 237 West 35th Street, this sophisticated, multi-leveled restaurant, bar and entertainment space from New York restaurateur Tom Murphy has now officially launched. Home to an expansive main level bar area, intimate 30-seat dining area, and classy event room, Juniper Bar is perfectly configured to become the hottest new neighborhood local. Just steps away from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, Juniper is a fun and lively setting for casual small bites, post-work catchups, or delicious pre-theater dinners.

Stepping inside this newly minted establishment, with its vibrant, rustic-elegant décor, you know you have arrived at a very special destination. Named after a bright blue berry, which is known for its piney flavor and use in flavoring gin, Juniper has a stylish color palate of teals, greys, and bursts of orange. Large, custom-designed lamps hang from the hand-painted patterned ceiling, adding texture and decoration to the room, and beams made from reclaimed wood bring an earthy vibe to the space.

Approachable and decidedly unpretentious, the hive of activity at Juniper can be seen through large front windows which draws in passersby’s and will become alfresco from spring. All-day light spills over the attractive front space, with vintage high-top bar stools and small tables provide for casual dining. The main bar area, featuring a deluxe 48ft stone “smart bar” with USB charging stations for cell phones and tablets, is situated beside a dancefloor and elevated DJ booth, which leads through to a 30-seat dining room lending itself to a more intimate environment. With large TV screens providing unobstructed views, Juniper is a sophisticated place to game-watch with friends. Downstairs, Juniper’s chic entertainment space offers the option to fully customize both food and beverage packages to ensure guests are presented with a unique and exciting event. The space has been cleverly designed with black banquettes, mirrors reflecting marble top cocktail tables and white chandeliers, giving it a low-key, sexy lounge vibe.

Juniper boasts a generous menu of delicious wraps, sandwiches and gourmet burgers that go perfectly with one of their numerous draft and bottle beer offerings or a selection from their wine bar. The Lobster Club with thin cut Applewood smoked bacon and lemon aioli is quite simply delectable, and the Burger Menu features specialties like the spicy Fire Breathing Burger and the Thai Style with avocado, papaya, watercress, spicy chili glaze, and goat cheese ginger mayo. Other items on the menu are Mexican-meets-Bistro, tapas style appetizers. You’ll find fresh Maine Lobster Tacos, Cheese Steak Spring Rolls with aged provolone, and for the more health conscious there are lighter options including Edamame Hummus or Kale Artichoke Dip served with oregano pita chips. On the Entrée list you’ll find supremely well-executed classics such as the Filet of Salmon wrapped with thin cut potatoes, wood sorrel, and balsamic gastrique, or Bourbon Steak with 14 oz N.Y. Strip, sweet potato mash and bourbon jus.

Juniper’s inspiring cocktail list features creative combinations such as the Blueberry Lemon Gin & Tonic with fresh blueberries, mint, lemon and St. George Gin, and the Pomegranate Cranberry Cosmo with Tito’s Vodka, St. Germaine Elderflower, cranberry and pomegranate juice. Juniper could be mistaken for a downtown beer-nerd haunt with 15 Drafts on offer, including a number of crafts and organic options, and 16 bottles. Happy Hour at Juniper is sure to please Midtown West’s after-work revelers, with Prosecco, cabernet and sauvignon blanc, house-infused Juniper Rosemary Gin & tonic and Ithaca Flower Power IPA all on offer for only $6 every weekday from 4:00-7:00pm.

Posture Experts from Body + Mind Re-Train New Yorkers How to Walk & Stand

Owner of renowned New York studio Body + Mind NYC (www.bodyplusmindnyc.com/), Sulyn Silbar, sees clients coming to her every week with chronic body pain and low energy caused by poor posture and faulty movement patterns. As an orthopedic massage therapist, posture and fitness expert, Sulyn is not only passionate about using targeted massage to help her clients out of pain, but about guiding her clients to fully understand exactly why they are in pain and then handing them the tools to take control of their own body, health and wellbeing.  Sulyn employs a unique combination of therapies to do this – a three-step approach combining active assessment, orthopedic massage, plus corrective exercise.

Most people do not realize they are in fact walking and holding themselves in a way that is causing them pain, Sulyn says. “Long sedentary days in front of computer screens in badly positioned office chairs, carrying heavy handbags over one shoulder, walking with your neck cradled down looking at your phone – people don’t realize what an effect these things can have”. First in her three-step 90-minute program, Sulyn takes clients for an in-depth Active Movement Assessment where she analyzes how someone walks, sits and holds themselves.  “It’s small tweaks that can make all the difference. It’s all about connecting the body and the mind,” she says. “Once you teach people how they can be in control of their own bodies – initially through corrective exercises – they can be more naturally aware of how to correct their mechanics and bring their bodies into balance.” Following the assessment, Sulyn massages over-worked muscles and stimulates under-performing muscles using corrective exercise and stretches.

Massage is often viewed as a luxury; something only done on vacations or as a special treat. But Sulyn says massage provides far more than just relaxation. “Getting regular massages can help remove built-up tension in the body, return range of motion to your limbs, and work through tightness in your muscles,” she says. “Massage is all about preventative care – massage is very helpful for having a happy, working body”. Studies also suggest that massage can have benefits ranging from reducing anxiety and getting rid of headaches to alleviating nerve pain. Many runners report that massages decrease muscle tension, improve range of motion and circulation, eases joint strain and flushes toxins and lactic acid from the body. Massage is also great for rehabilitating injuries – something Sulyn knows a lot about as a personal trainer and former nationally-ranked triathlete who discovered her passion for corrective exercise and rehabilitation while recovering from injuries of her own.

Sulyn is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and graduated from the Massage Therapy program at the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in 2006. She has been a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) since 2006 and became certified in Orthopedic Massage in 2010 from the Institute for Pain Management. Sulyn has built a talented team of massage therapists and strength and corrective exercise trainers to assist more people out of pain and improve their daily lives.

Body + Mind NYC is located at 251 West 30th Street, New York, NY. For more information visit www.bodyplusmindnyc.com

Michael Nouri in NBC’s Upcoming New Miniseries, ‘The Slap’

Veteran actor Michael Nouri will appear in five of NBC’s upcoming eight-episode miniseries, The Slap, which premieres Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 8:00pm (EST). Based on the book by Christos Tsiolkas and Australian television series of the same name, The Slap is produced by Matchbox Pictures and stars Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton, Uma Thurman, Zachary Quinto, Melissa George, Thomas Sadoski and Brian Cox.

The Slap, which is written and co-produced by Jon Robin Baitz (“Brothers & Sisters’), co-produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (“Gladiator,” “Men in Black”), and directed by Lisa Cholodenko (“The Kids are All Right”), takes an unflinching look at how one little slap can have a huge impact. The show follows Hector, played by Peter Sarsgaard (“Blue Jasmine,” “An Education”), a public servant and father who explodes when his hothead cousin slaps another couple’s misbehaving child. This moment ignites a chain of events that will uncover long-buried secrets within this group of friends and family that vigorously challenge the core values of everyone involved. Nouri, who has enjoyed a successful career spanning film (“The Proposal,” “Finding Forrester,”), television (“Damages,” “NCIS”), and theater (“Victor/Victoria” opposite Julie Andrews), will play Thanasis Korkoulis in The Slap, a successful attorney and childhood friend of Brian Cox’s character, Manolis, the patriarch of the family.

On Monday, February 9, 2015, Nouri joined the all-star cast of The Slap who gathered for the New York Premiere Party hosted by NBC and Vanity Fair at The New Museum. On the red carpet, Nouri expressed his excitement for the show’s premiere, saying “the cast and crew have been just sensational to work with […] this has been an incredibly thrilling project to be a part of.”

Nouri’s upcoming feature credits include “The Squeeze” which is being released in April, 2015 in which he also serves as a co-producer, “Teleios,” “The List,” and “Street Level,” in which he co-stars with Danny Trejo.  Nouri recently co-starred in the feature film “Taken Away” which aired on Lifetime in Fall 2014.

The Slap premieres this Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 8:00pm EST. For more information visit www.nbc.com/the-slap
